Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Lost In Space........ Brent!

Hi Lost! :) I'm dancinbears.

At first I read your "IT" thread, and knew you were referring to my hope thread where I used the term. Normally I might sit here and give you this long explanation.... but I had a long day at work, and I'm exhausted. and honestly very upset by everything on the news. so I'll simply leave it at this... I'm sorry you didn't understand what I meant.

As far as Brent and recommendations.... that I can do! :)

To actually 'see' why I love him so much, watch Downhill from Here DVD or Truckin up To Buffalo DVD ... in fact, head right to Man Smart, Women Smarter on truckin up to Buffalo! Him and Jerry are swapping riffs back and forth... and you gotta see the look on Jerry's face! He just brought such energy to the band! :) Plus I love his raspy voice! ...and I think he was hot!! =D

Some of my favorite shows that have Brent highlights are:

10-17-82 --Brent nails a great Never Trust a Woman, and there's a sweet Brent/Bobby jam right before drums.
7-22-84 --Brent surprises everyone with a really hot version of I just want to make love to you, which had been last played in '66!
11-5-85 --A Strong Don't need Love right before drums, and the band stays onstage to play it with him.

There's tons more, but those were the ones I could remember right away.

Everybody knows I'm also a huge fan of March 1990-- I think it's some of Brent's best! just listen from the 15th to the end of the month... or, head right to 3-26-90 -- Little light, Blow away and Dear Mr. Fantasy... WOW!

As far as CD's I've got some Go Ahead I could share with you... and a very rare Solo Album of his that was never released! Also got 4-26-88 which is a Brent solo show followed by a Bobby Solo show, and then later the Grateful Dead played an acoustic show after. good stuff! :)

Lastly, the best site on the web, hands down is...

www.brentmydland.net

You simply have to check it out.
Anyway, I share everything I've got, so if you'd like a bomb just e-mail me. :)

and welcome to the forum.
~dancin'

P.S. oh, and for Cliff, not to worry too much... dancinbears is right now immersed in 1974! 2-24 to be exact! =D

Thanks for the kind reply DB. I hope my "It" speech was taken with the half grain of thought I inserted! I think the important "It" is the music. I have to say that when my daughter (now 13) was in her toddler years, one of her favorite songs was "I will take you home." And I do love his gusto on "Blow Away." I appreciate your suggestions as I am interested in good places to hear the whole band with Brent fully involved and having his say. I will check out your suggestions--thank you.

Meantime, a prayer for your daughter.I look at mine each night and know that I am blessed.

Dude know exactly where your at. Just got my hands on the truckin up to buffalo dvd and man it brings tears to my eyes. The exchanges between Jerry and Brent here are exquisite to say the least. Start to finish one of the all time greats. Must say tough that it's the Brent-Jerry exchange during NFA that gets me going. I mean real fetal position bring it all back kind of jammin that I so wish was still happining now. Anyway that said don't mean to hijack the thread but does anyone else think they should release all and any shows on video that are obviously not commercial [read: technical difficulties, noise, various flubs and what seems to be any show where Jerry's voice isn't near perfect]. I mean personally these videos bring it all back for me and that there are so few available when I know they were videoing every show is such a tease. OK well maybe I'm ranting but I would love to see every show possible available on video. Ok that said and back on subject of Brent Jammin, I remember a run at Rosemont theatre Chicago in the spring of 89 that to me was what seemed to totally wake Jerry up and start the great late 89, 90 run they had. Never heard any recordings on this since I'm out here in limbo but you may want to check it out.
